On the day they first met, Lawson and his Big Brother Travis decided to try their hand at rock-climbing. Since then, they have been enjoying many activities together such as hockey, hiking and board games.
Travis is proud to see how Lawson has grown and matured, participating more in school and taking meaningful risks. “I’m really proud to see the person he’s becoming and I can’t wait to see him grow more and more over the years.” As for Lawson, he appreciates how Travis helped him become more confident and self-aware. “He really encourages me to follow my dreams.”
In addition to mentoring Lawson, Travis is a dedicated volunteer at Big Brothers of Greater Vancouver. He volunteers at fundraising events such as Bowl for Big Brothers and the B2Gold Big Brothers Golf Classic. He is inspired to give back to his community “because I saw the positive influence that teachers and older friends had in my life while growing up, and I wanted to be a part of that too.”
Travis and Lawson enjoy frequenting places that actively support Big Brothers Big Sisters, such as Boston Pizza. Over the past five years, Boston Pizza has donated $1.5 million to help expand BBBS mentoring services to new communities and to youth who do not currently have access to these programs.
